Battery Tips and Info

Current Consumption

My Motorola Droid Razr draws up to 1.3A from the USB charging port (assuming the port can provide that much current).
So a regular laptop USB port or an off-brand charger may not be able to charge the phone as fast as the OEM Motorola charger.

Booting in Safe Mode

Safe Mode boots with the minimum set of programs. It will not run most programs you installed yourself.

Safe Mode may be useful to remove a program you recently installed and that misbehaves.

To boot into Safe Mode:

	* turn power off

These are the steps I had to use to configure K-9 mail for my Droid Razr (Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich)

	* From the Home screen, tap the K-9 Mail button.
 * If you have not previously created this account, tap the Menu button and select Add Account.

Configure K-9 mail for Cox pop mail

To the best of my knowledge, the stock Android Mail app is badly broken. I could not get it to reliably fetch mail from the various email accounts I have, and it just about refused to send mail under any circumstance. I googled the problem and it is widespread. The best alternative appears to be a free mail client called K-9 Mail.

Disable Captive Portal Detection

By default, when connected to a WiFi access point, Android checks to see if the Internet is accessible. It does that by trying to connect to the Google site.

If it cannot connect to the Google servers, it marks the WiFi connection (by putting an X or ! near the WiFi icon in the notification bar) so that it will not automatically connect to it, choosing instead a network that has internet connection.

from DJI's forum (edited):

IMPORTANT ! HERE IS HOW TO EASILY FIX THE LAG ISSUE!

1: Reset you tablet to factory default (Settings->Backup & Reset->Factory data reset.)

2: Install Zapper Task Killer and run it.

This is what I did to try and save my Droid Razr HD that one day rebooted by itself and would not exit the Motorola logo.

First try to boot into Recovery.

To do this, first turn it off. If you can't get it to turn off, press and hold both the power and volume down and wait until the screen goes black (this can take more than 10 seconds).

The default path for the SD card in the Droid Razr with Ice Cream Sandwich is: /mnt/sdcard-ext/

The Android “root” directory on the Droid Razr actually is /mnt/sdcard/, not particularly intuitive.

Structure of an Android app

This is a quick guide explaining the structure and lifecycle of an Android app.

There are a lot of tutorials on the Internet explaining how to create apps with various tools, but it took a while to actually understand how apps work. This is not obvious, particularly if you have a background writing applications under a desktop operating system like Windows or Linux.

Unforgetting Bluetooth Devices

If you have clicked on “Forget” while setting up a Bluetooth device on Android, you may have difficulties reconnecting to it later.

I found this tip on StackExchange:

If your device isn't paired with the phone, but it's still not connecting, you can try clearing your Bluetooth cache.
